The district CourtgainThe area where fishermen live has changed little since its foundation in the 16th century is called the "Courtgain" because fishermen earn most often just enough to survive. Their houses are built without comfort hillside along narrow alleys. The single room on the ground floor served as a place of life, two small rooms upstairs to house children, often many. No running water, no electricity, much less sewer filtration: buckets were discharged into streams in the middle of the street. Life was spent in the street where the fishermen used to mend their nets on the doorstep.
